5.7 Instant on, frequent switching

Unlike other traditional light sources such as fluorescent or metal halide lamps, LEDs reach full brightness instantly, with no re-strike delay. In general illumination, instant turn on can be desirable for both safety and convenience. In contrast with traditional light sources, LED’s lifetime and lumen maintenance stays unaffected by frequent switching (Figure 5.7.1).
